Contemplata aliis Tradere

A meagre contribution to the mission and work of the Order of Preachers: my reflections, thoughts, ideas and the occasional rant on matters mainly theological, philosophical and ecclesiastical, drawn primarily from my reading and experience of life and the world. Striving to be always Catholic, firmly Christian and essentially Dominican, flavoured with dashes of Von Balthasar.

A night of fireworks, feasting and fun!

It's not often that I post photos of the brethren in my community or even report on what we do here but, inspired by MonialesOP, today I offer you a rare peek into life at Blackfriars Cambridge! As you will know, last night we celebrated St Lucy's night with a modest bonfire, dazzling fireworks, lovely food, amusing poetry and multivarious song. The prior - who makes the most delightful cakes and puddings - made a delicious and beautifully decorated fruit cake to mark his Silver Jubilee of Profession.

Sadly St Lucy did not make an appearence as the sisters did not feel up to it, but we had the Novitiate Singers ala the Von Trapp Family and we sang 'So Long Farewell' at the end of the night! It was a lovely occasion, intimate and fun. As the psalm sung to us in Hebrew last night encapsulated it: "Behold how good and how pleasant it is, brothers dwelling together"!

Enjoy the photos...

So long, farewell from the Novices (front) and Br Angel (a co-operator brother from the US Southern Province), the Novice Master and Br Romero (senior novice). Br Romero Radix, OP makes Simple Profession next Tuesday. Please pray for him.

Dan: It would not mind putting up more photos and diary-style posts on this blog but as I now live in a community, what I put up affects other brothers. As such, I stick to more neutral and spiritual/liturgical topics. All posts have to be approved by the Novice Master or Prior and such posts are easier to pass...

If this were a community project (as with MonialesOP) or a Novitiate apostolate, it would be a different matter but at the moment it is still very much a personal apostolate of one Dominican.

Oh yes... being in a Novitiate makes one slimmer simply because of the amount of physical work one does!!

Br Paul remembered you months ago when I first mentioned your name to him...
